is affected by autism. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report the prevalence of autism in at least 1 in 166 young people, making this disease more common than childhood cancer, blindness, and Down's Syndrome.
 
The Autism Society of America defines autism as a complex pervasive developmental disorder that involves the function of the brain. It is a neurological disability, not a mental illness. Individuals with autism have problems with social relationships, communication, and sensory perception.
